A Day in the Life :: Take 2

Good morning!

For Daddy, the morning begins at 3:00. That’s what time he has to get up for work on most mornings, as he starts at Crinc (Container Recovery Inc.) at 3:30 in the morning.

I am the next one to stumble out of bed. I get up at 6:00 so I can do my workout and shower before the kids woke up. Before I jump in the shower (at around 6:45) I throw the load of laundry that I started the night before, into the dryer. At 7:15 I unload the dishwasher (If it was run the night before), and make my bed. Then I hear Amanda start babbling in her crib at 7:30ish, her usual time to wake up…

Amanda and I always have to get our morning snuggle in. From 7:30 to 8:00 we rock in the recliner, and she has a glass of milk.

Alicia usually stumbles out of bed between 7:30 and 8:00…. She sometimes wakes up in a pretty good mood, and will join Amanda and I for our snuggle time on the recliner… But sometimes she wakes up grumpy and will sulk on the couch for a little while….

Jared and Josh usually come out within minutes of each other, sometime around 8:00. They always wake up in a good mood (after some eye rubbing! LOL!) and are ready to start the day…

Time to do our morning chores…

From 8:00 to 8:30 we get our chores done. I help Alicia make her bed, while the boys make theirs. Then we fold and put away our load of laundry for the day. I fold Mine, Daddy’s, and the girl’s clothes, while the boys fold their own. The boys also have to feed the cat, and I vacuum the carpets.

 

A time to eat… A time to clean up…

At 8:30 we have a simple breakfast, and I quickly clean the kitchen. At 9:00 it’s time for the boys (and sometimes Alicia) to take a shower. I give Amanda (and sometimes Alicia) a bath in the kitchen sink, while the boys are in the shower. I let Alicia decided whether she wants a bath or a shower. Then I dress Amanda, while the other three can dress themselves. And I do the girl’s hair.

ABCs and 123s…. It’s time for school!

I call Josh in for school at 9:30. For now it’s easier to do the boy’s separately. Things will probably change next year, when Josh starts first grade… Anyway, it takes Josh about an hour to do his lessons. 30 minutes for the workbook pages, and 30 minutes of actual reading. Josh’s subjects are Bible, Math, Reading, Phonics, and Handwriting.

At 10:30 I call Jared in for school. Jared’s subjects (he’s in 2nd grade) are Bible, Math, Reading, English, Spelling, Handwriting, Heritage Studies, and Science. We try to get in Bible, Math, and sometimes Reading before lunch.

While Jared is hard at work, his siblings are hard at play…

Noon is here, time for lunch!

At 12:00 we take a break for lunch, then Jared gets a short recess while I clean up the kitchen and Amanda. At 12:45 Amanda and I have a little rocking time before she goes down for a nap at 1:00.

At 1:00, with Amanda tucked in for her nap, Jared and I are back to hitting the books. After I get him settled with some work, I will call Alicia in for her preschool lessons a couple times a week… Alicia loves to do school, and would do it every day if I had enough for her to do! LOL! I only work with her for 30 minutes or so.

Daddy’s Home!

The time Daddy gets home depends on what day of the week it is. This was a Tuesday, so he got home at around 3:00, right when Pixie was waking up from her nap.

Time to clean up, dinner is almost ready.

At between 3:30 and 4:00, Jared finishes up his lessons for the day, and then he runs off to play. At 4:30 I tell the kids to start cleaning the bedroom, while I start making dinner.

Alicia ended up falling asleep, and letting her brothers clean the room…. Turned out she was coming down with the flu…

We eat dinner at 5:00… Since the kids have taken over the house, we no longer have room for a dining table… So we are bad. We eat dinner in the living room, and watch a TV show together as a family. We watch an episode of one of our favorite shows that we have on DVD, either “Little House on the Prairie” or “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman”. Sometimes we might watch “The Dukes of Hazard” instead.

Bedtime!

after dinner the kids go back to playing, Daddy showers and I clean the kitchen. We call for a final room cleanup at 7:00. At 7:30 we start the bedtime routine. The kids get into their jammies and brush their teeth. Then I read them a story, and at 8:00 they head to their beds. After saying their prayers and getting a kiss, they head off to dream-land.

Daddy also goes to sleep at 8:00, though he is usually in bed with the TV on as soon as he is out of the shower.

As for me, as soon as I tuck the kids in I start a load of laundry, do any last minute pick ups that need it, and then it’s “Mommy Time”!!! I’ll either read, scrapbook, watch a movie or play on the computer. I *try* to be in bed by 11:00, but it doesn’t always work! *wink*
