Joe = My hubby of 13 years
Joe is 40 years old. A Born-Again Believer. Pro-life. Republican. Conservative. He is a truck driver for Container Recovery, and has been for 9 years. He enjoys being in the outdoors. When the sun is shining, you can’t keep the man inside. He loves to go camping, and going on outing with the kids. He loves country music, basketball, and Cops. He likes watching TV in general, and likes watching the news. We were married on September 10, 1994.
Jared = Son, 10 yrs
Jared is a very smart child. Though he tends to be a bit on the timid side, when trying new things, he is open and outgowing with people. He can be a little smart alek at times.
And likes to get into a battle of wits with his Daddy… Which he normally wins!
He is sensitive, caring, and giving. He loves to help others. Though he can be bossy at times with his brother and sisters… Maybe it’s an older child thing. Jared is growing up. He is losing interest in toys and childhood games. He mainly loves spending time outside with his friends, or riding his bike… His latest passion is NASCAR! (Big Jimmie Johnson fan)
Josh = Son, 8 yrs
Josh is a very silly boy! He can be shy with new people at times, but doesn’t have any trouble trying new things. He is very cuddly, and loves to sit on your lap, but he isn’t too demonstrative with his love… He only gives hugs and kisses to Mommy and Daddy. He is sensitive, and tends to cry often, getting his feelings hurt easily. He’s a major goof ball, and is into boy things like bugs, snakes, and other yucky stuff. Joshy loves to play his educational games on the computer, and could easily become a couch potato!
He also loves riding his bike, and playing outside with friends.
Alicia = Daughter, 6 yrs
Alicia is a very, very busy child. She doesn’t stop too long in any one place. She is the one child you have to watch closely, because she will wander off in a split second. She is bright and inquisitive, loving and cheerful. She loves to give hugs and kisses! She is a very emotional girl, and will pout well when she doesn’t get her way. She tends to be boisterous, and tends to talk loudly, especially when she’s excited about something. She’s our little Princess.
Amanda = Daughter, 4 years
Amanda is a sweet, cuddly little angel girl. She’s the one who’s hard to discipline, because she doesn’t seem to care when you do. She’ll just grin at you… Very hard not to smile at that.
She loves playing with her baby dolls, and packing her blanket around the house. Her favorite thing is to be held on your lap. She gives sweet hugs too. She also loves to go outside, and adores her older siblings.

wow! A nice loving family n amazing kids! way to go!!!
Hi Julie,
It is always wonderful to read about families that love each other so much and are free to share their faith. I have been to Oregon a couple of times and it truly is a beautiful place! We are blessed as well to live on beautiful Vancouver Island, BC!
I marvel at the beauty that God displays all around us! I heard a story about a little girl that said to her Dad “If it is so beautiful down here Dad can you imagine how beautiful heaven is!”
Hello Julie,
I found your other blog/journal (junglemom) through a weird coincidence. I was trying to find the lyrics for a song called After The Sunset. Your blog was one of two results found on Google. When I visited the entry with the lyrics, I got hooked into your story about Joe and your kids.
Having just married my husband earlier this year, I could totally identify with your feelings as you were dating and starting your marriage. I could also identify with your journeys through pregnancy. I truly believe I will get pregnant in God’s time, but whilst I wait, I feel the same anticipation you felt each time you thought you might be pregnant. I thought I was the only one who had those thoughts and made my husband stop at the drugstore on his way home from work to pick up a pregnancy test!
Seeing your beautiful brood in the photographs is like a rainbow for me. I know God will deliver in one way or another (literally!).
In any case, it was a pleasure to read about some of your experiences and blessings. I’m sure Our Lord has many great things planned for you all.
Blessings,
Danielle
I was just wondering.. do you know why you’ve been the ‘featured blog’ for so long? Is it totally random or do you pay a fee or something? You’ve been up there a long time and I was wondering how that worked. just curious.
Julie,
I’m so glad to find your blog. I have similiar values as a Christian and a future homeschooler. I have a 3 year old and 1 year old, and 1 girl in heaven. I am amazed at how many children you have both here and with Jesus.
If you end up having that 13th (!) baby, please check out my podcast and website for free tips and encouragement - http://www.losingweightafterbaby.com
God bless and merry Christmas,
Arlene
you have a very beautiful family.
Would you believe that I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now and I’ve never seen this page?
- I never get to see many photos with you in it.
What a nice picture of your whole family
Hi Julie,
Its wonderful to know that your great grandfather Volbrecht Nagel was the German missionary to India.
We still sing the Christian Hymns written/translated by this great man of God. It is a great inspiration to see how V. Nagel lived a life of faith in Kerala, India.
The old house which V. Nagel & Harriet lived is still existing (though in a bad condition).
